iders Teresa Jacinto Scholarship

Purpose and Criteria

The iders Teresa Jacinto Academic Scholarship was established in September 2012 by the principals of iders, Bradley Brown and David Fletcher, to acknowledge the significant contribution that the Manitoba Filipino community has made to iders success and growth.

Teresa Jacinto was iders' first Filipino employee hired in August, 2001 when iders expanded its operations to include electronics manufacturing. When the scholarship was established, over 30 individuals from the Filipino community numbered amongst our exceptionally talented staff of nearly one hundred.

The Teresa Jacinto Scholarship will be directed towards Manitoba Filipino youth who have been accepted by an accredited college or university for undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate studies.

Each year, two $1500 scholarships will be awarded. Primary selection criteria will be based on academic performance (grades), need, and field of study. As iders is a technical organization, priority will be placed on applicants pursuing technical studies, but all applicants pursuing any college/university studies will be welcome and considered.

The scholarship is open to all Manitoba Filipino youth who meet the criteria, including friends and relatives of iders staff members. Previous scholarship winners are welcome to re-apply, but priority will be given to first-time applicants.

Selection Process

Selection will be made by a committee comprised of iders principals and members from the community outside of iders.

The award decisions will be final – there will be no avenues for challenge or review. If a winning candidate fails to meet or maintain criteria (i.e. they lose acceptance or drop their studies), the scholarship will be awarded to an alternate candidate selected by the committee.

All applicants will be notified of their results. As well, there will be announcements of winning candidates in various community journals, magazines, and heritage organizations.

In conjunction with our scholarship program promotion, iders Incorporated reserves the right to use the name, recent photo, and personal essay of successful candidates without any claim for broadcasting, printing, royalty, or other rights.
